2. Open My Computer.
3. Right-click the appropriate Removable Disk.
4. Click Tools, and then click Check Now.
5. Select Automatically fix file system errors, and then click Start.

Things should work just fine after that!

How To Delete Your Whole Address Book

The process requires you to follow these simple instructions listed below. Just PLEASE make sure to make a backup using desktop manager if you do not know what you are doing.

1. Click on the address book homescreen icon
2. Press the menu button
3. Select options from the menu
4. Type the letters rset
5. WARNING: If you proceed you may lose your whole address book. We take no responsibility for any issues that may arise. Please make a backup first!
6. Select yes to the prompts to delete your on device address book if you wish to do so.

Storm Specific Tips/Tricks

Search for all e-mail/texts from one sender
Go into your inbox and highlight a message from the desired sender, don’t press down, but just leave your finger there for a few seconds and all the messages will show up. Great way to eliminate all those texts from your pesky ex at once!

Select multiple messages
Again, go into your inbox, touch the top message that you want selected, then touch a message below that, all the messages in between should be highlighted. You can scroll down and the messages will continue to highlight by the lowest one you touch. Once you have all the desired messages selected, you can delete them, or move them or do whatever with them. Big time saver for clearing out that busy SMS box.

Edit something you are typing
While in the edit box, touch the sentence that you want to edit, when the blue box turns into a little rectangle, slide to the position where you want to make the edit. I haven’t quite mastered this yet, so be ready for the barrage of typos in my posts coming from the Storm…And I’m a horrible speller!

More easily browse your inbox
While you are viewing your messages, if you swipe your finger from right to left, it will take you to a newer message. And you guessed it! Go from left to right, and you can see an older message.

Zooming on the camera
Ready for your close up? When you are in the camera, slide your finger from bottom to top to zoom in, and from top to bottom to zoom out.

Num/Caps Lock
To put the keyboard in either NumLock or CapsLock mode simply hold down the “!?123” or “aA” respectively for a second or so. Helps with those passwords that have several numbers grouped together.

To speed up keyboard when typing

go to options>screen/keyboard and set Tap Interval to 100, Hover period to 100 and Swipe sensitivity to 6.
Also to ease some of the lag, if you don’t use VZ navigator or Visual Voicemail, delete them from your device (options>advanced options>applications). This has helped a little for me. You can always add them back through the application center.

to quickly show keyboard, swipe from bottom – up and vice versa to quickly hide it when in “lock mode” hold the mute button to switch to vibrate and back holding down the Blackberry Menu button brings up the app switcher double click the menu button and it will either open, reply or send a message
while playing an mp3 you can use the volume on the side to control volume but if you hold it down it will switch song

Auto-input VM Password:
Green Call button–> BB Menu button–> Options–> Voicemail–> Password type you password there, save and then try it out. It should auto-input your password.

• If you would like to speed up the home page – hide or move icons until there is no need to scroll. Once you have done that – the highlight will follow your finger around in the whole home view
• Regarding the edit of text – if you increase the font size it makes moving the cursor easier
• Holding down the BB button brings up the ap switcher
• SEND an email/SMS/MMS quickly by double tapping the BB button instead of using the send icon (does not work if a word correction is still active)
• To see full web pages make sure your identification is set to IE or Firefox (in browser, menu–options–internet browser–identification)
• Browsing, swiping will move the screen, single tap will bring up bars, double tap will zoom, click will select
• Hold down green button for call list
• To increase performance – change tap settings, swipe sensitivity, and hover

alt+SBEB untuk BISLITE (*copas dari milist sebelah)

Fungsi alt+SBEB adalah untuk mereset service book agar paket BISLITE yang semula hanya untuk chat (ym bbm) serta email bisa juga digunakan untuk browser, donlot apli fb for bb (sejauh ini hanya Facebook versi 1.6.0.21 atau 1.6.0.22) yang tentunya akan dikenakan biaya gprs diluar biaya paket bislite tadi.

Caranya terlebih dahulu kita buat enable legacy Service book restore, dengan cara :

1. Matikan jaringan Blackberry (hanya jaringan)

Buka Option > Mobile Network > Data Service OFF

2. Enable Legacy SB Restore

Masuk ke Options > Advance Options > setelah itu pilih SERVICE BOOK dan tekan sambil di tahan ALT terus tekan SBEB setelah itu akan muncul tulisan Legacy SB restore enabled

2. Setting TCP/IP:

Buka Options > Advance Options > TCP/IP

Contreng APN setting Enabled, dan contreng APN Authentication Enabled.

3. Copy file Service Book.ipd yang gue attach ke PC/Notebook. Buka Blackberry Desktop

Manager di PC/Notebook dan pilih BACKUP AND RESTORE

4. pilih ADVANCED, didalam advanced tersebut kita bisa memilih restore atau backup service book

5. pilih SERVICE BOOK

6. click di FILE dan pilih OPEN

7. select file Service Book.ipd yang gw attach

8. setelah diselect maka akan tampil service book disebelah kiri pilih service book tersebut dan click tanda panah yang mengarah ke kanan, maka service book lama akan digantikan dengan service book yang baru.

Hard reset hh anda.

9. SEND SERVICE BOOK : langsung dari ?BLACKBERRY® (Network harus dinyalakan kembali ke kondisi ON). Harus lewat Bolt Browser atau Opera Mini atau masuk lewat PC/Notebook ke http://operator.blackberry.com contoh http://indosat.blackberry.com

Masukkan username dan passwordnya > Login > Help > Send Service Book > Log Out.

10.Masuk ke Browser bawaan ?BLACKBERRY®, tekan menu/ ? > Options > Browser Configuration >

Rubah Browser dari Hotspot Browser ke kondisi Browser > Save.

Lalu ke General Properties > Default Browser rubah ke Browser.

Selesai, lakukan uji coba dengan browsing atau download OTA.

Utilizing search engines

So much information is on the web, its mind boggling. Thankfully we have search engines to sift through them and catagorize them for us. Unfortunatly, there is still so much info that even with these search engines, its often a painstakingly slow process (something comparable to death for a hacker) to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Lets get right into it.

I use google.com as my primary search engine because it presently tops the charts as far as the sites that it indexes which means more pertinent info per search.

1. Page translation.

Just because someone speaks another language doesn’t mean they dont have anything useful to say. I use translation tools like the ones found at

http://babelfish.altavista.com

and

http://world.altavista.com

to translate a few key words I am searching for. Be specific and creative because these tools arent the most accurate things on the planet.

2. Directories.

These days everything is about $$$. We have to deal/w SEO (search engine optimization) which seems like a good idea on paper until you do a search for toys and get 5 pornsites in the first 10 results. Using a sites directory will eliminate that. You can narrow your search down easily by looking for the info in specific catagories. (PS google DOES have directories, they’re at: directory.google.com)

3. Here are some tips that google refers to as “advanced”

A. “xxxx” / will look for the exact phrase. (google isnt case sensitive)

B. -x / will search for something excluding a certain term

C. filetype:xxx / searches for a particular file extention (exe, mp3, etc)

D. -filetype:xxx / excludes a particular file extention

E. allinurl:x / term in the url

F. allintext:x / terms in the text of the page

G. allintitle:x / terms in the html title of that page

H. allinanchor:x / terms in the links

4. OR

Self explanatory, one or the other… (ie: binder OR joiner)

5. ~X

Synonyms/similar terms (in case you can’t think of any yourself)

6. Numbers in a range.

Lets say you’re looking for an mp3 player but only want to spend up to $90. Why swim through all the others? MP3 player $0..$90 The 2 periods will set a numeric range to search between. This also works with dates, weights, etc

7. +

Ever type in a search and see something like this:

“The following words are very common and were not included in your search:”

Well, what if those common words are important in your search? You can force google to search through even the common terms by putting a + in front of the denied word.

8. Preferences

It amazes me when I use other peoples PCs that they dont have their google search preferences saved. When you use google as much as I do, who can afford to not have preferences? They’re located on the right of the search box, and have several options, though I only find 2 applicable for myself…

A. Open results in new browser

B. Display 10-100 results per page. (I currently use 50 per page, but thats a resolution preference, and 5X’s the default)

9. *

Wildcard searches. Great when applied to a previously mentioned method. If you only know the name of a prog, or are looking for ALL of a particular file (ie. you’re DLing tunes) something like *.mp3 would list every mp3.

10. Ever see this?

“In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the X already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.” The answer is YES. yes yes yes. Did I mention yes? I meant to.

11. Search EVERYWHERE

Use the engine to its fullest. If you dont find your answer in the web section, try the group section. Hell, try a whole different search engine. Dont limit yourself, because sometimes engines seem to intentionally leave results out.

ex. use google, yahoo, and altavista. search the same terms… pretty close, right? Now search for disney death. Funny, altavista has plenty of disney, but no death…hmmm.

If you’ve read this far into this tutorial without saying, “Great, a guy that copied a few google help pages and thinks its useful info” then I will show you WHY (besides accuracy, speed, and consistancy finding info on ANYTHING) its nice to know how a search engine works. You combine it/w your knowledge of other protocol.

Example:

Want free music? Free games? Free software? Free movies? God bless FTP! Try this search:

intitle:”Index of music” “rolling stones” mp3

Substitute rolling stones/w your favorite band. No? Try the song name, or another file format. Play with it. Assuming SOMEONE made an FTP and uploaded it, you’ll find it.

For example….I wanted to find some Sepultura. If you never heard them before, they’re a Brazilian heavy metal band that kicks ass. I started with this:

intitle:”Index of música” “Sepultura” mp3 <– nothing

At this point it occurs to me that I may be missing something, so I try:

(and thats without searching for spelling errors)

Also try inurl:ftp

I find that * works better for me than trying to guess other peoples mis-spellings.

The same method applies for ebooks, games, movies, SW, anything that may be on an FTP site.

How To Tell If You’ve Been Blocked On Twitter

There is, however, one very easy way to tell immediately if you’ve been blocked: open a second Twitter account.

When you’ve been blocked on the network, and try and access somebody’s tweets, this is what you see.

This is essentially identical to what you see when somebody has protected their status updates, so it can be confusing. Moreover, it can be a little embarrassing if you issue a request to follow to somebody who you later find out has blocked you.

But there is a loophole: Twitter blocks on a per account basis – not by using cookies or IP addresses. By logging out of Twitter and revisiting their profile page with a different account, you can immediately see what is what. If you can now see and read their tweets, then your other (likely main) account has been blocked. If you still see the ‘This person has protected their tweets’ message, then that is what they’ve actually done.
So You’ve Been Blocked – Now What?

People have many different reasons for blocking somebody, and most of the time a block is issued legitimately, at least in the eyes of the blocker. Chances are that the person is unlikely to reverse their decision, and even if they might it’s awkward for you to now approach them, so the best thing to do is just move on.

Plenty more tweets in the sea, after all.
Two Accounts Good, One Account Bad

Apart from this easy and convenient way to find out if you’ve been blocked, there are other valid reasons to have a second Twitter account, too.

1. It can protect you from identity theft.
2. If Twitter suspends your main account (for whatever reason), you have another way to contact them and issue a help ticket.
3. It’s useful for testing purposes, allowing you to experiment with new features on the network, or via a different device (i.e., a mobile phone).
4. You can try different avatars, background wallpapers, even protected updates, without impacting your main account.
5. If you run a blog, a second account could be used to share new articles, which gives your readers an alternative way to subscribe to just those updates (avoiding the other tweets you likely make on your main account).

Conclusion

Blocking is very much a part of the Twitter experience and while the feature definitely needs some improvements, for many it plays an important part in making them feel safe and secure on the network. Finding yourself blocked by somebody else is never pleasant, but it’s not something to obsess over, either.

Let’s face it: most of the time, you will have some idea of why it has happened. And if not, or if you feel that an individual has blocked you for something utterly ridiculous, do your very best to regroup and move on. Much like if you lend somebody $20 and then never see them again, it was probably worth it.
